Getting porcelain veneers to replace plastic ones.?

have had plastic veneers for ages and am frustrated with how fake they look. I know veneers that are porcelain look more natural but the reason I got the plastic ones in the first place was to cover eroded front teeth and the dentist tells me he will have to take off more enamel to put the porcelain veneers on. That's what I don't want, more enamel off. I fear if any more enamel comes off I wont have any of my real tooth left. What to do

Porcelain Veneers are definitely far better in terms of life and esthetics as compared to plastic veneers. Very good decision to have opted for same. But if you want them to be cemented directly on to your teeth, your cosmetic dentist may oblige only if you do not complain of looking close to uglier or bulging (obese) teeth. The shaving off (0.8 mm) of tooth enamel is almost a necessary component to achieve perfect esthetics. The strength of the porcelain material will more or less compensate for the lost enamel. The sensitivity can be expected for 2-4 days or little more. Meds provided or prescribed by dentist will help ease the pain.
Reply:Dentalcare32 is 100% correct. If you do not get down to a fresh surface, the bond will not reeally bond and you will have your veneers popping of. It only has to be a fresh surface, which is similar to sanding through the varnish on a table before you apply new varnish. He won't grind off all of your enamel.
