How do porcelain veneers work?

Dentists will "rough" up the surface of your teeth, kind of like a manicurist "roughs" up your nails before putting on acrylic nails. Then they will make either a mold of your teeth or manufacture the veneers right there at the side of the chair. Then, they will place cement on the veneer and place it on the surface of your teeth. Some dentists that take a mold of your teeth will send out and have a lab make the permanent veneers. The end result is the same either way. You will have to have the veneers replaced every 10 or so years as they start to deteriorate or chip or discolor. They porcelain can stain, and cannot be bleached as your natural teeth can be. So keep that in mind when you pick a shade of white that you want. You will be with it for a while.

they are fake teeth that are glued onto they teeth..
Reply:The dentist will shave the front of your tooth to give the veneer the space needed to cement it to your tooth. I always tell my patients that veneers are alot like fake finger nails. They are very thin so they can break easy. You have to be very careful when biting into certain foods. They make your teeth look great though.
