The particulars on porcelain veneers?

does it still take a week for the dentist to prepare them or can they do them in one day also how much am I looking at paying for four of them. Any good bargains anywhere?

The particulars on porcelain veneers?
Getting veneers takes a lot longer than they advertise (in my experience it took 2 months from first to last visit). However, the extra time makes sense and is more practical than "only 2 visits".

Here's how mine went:

visit #1: meet the cosmetic dentist and the office staff, take xrays, talk about options, make future appointments.

visit #2: get teeth whitenened (i used zoom) as you want your veneers to be your most prefeerred color as they can never be changed once they are made the color you choose.

visit #3: once teeth are desired whiteness (about 2-3 weeks after tubules have closed and color has stabalized), get teeth prepped for veneers (aka: drilling down of teeth) and get your temporary plastic teeth that mimic what you're veneers will look like to some extent (they look really great for plastic teeth so no worries!! but your veneers will look FANTASTIC compared to them). Now it's time to "live" with your temporaries so you can make informed adjustments based on how your tongue feels on them when you speak etc.

visit #4 and maybe #5: adjustments on your temporaries to closley approximate what you want your veneers to look like. once you get them as close as possible, another wax-up is taken and that final wax up is sent to the ceramicist.

visit#6: take delivery of veneers (aka: get them "installed" yay!!).....if anything is wrong with them, like mine had blue spots in them and were WAY too bulky, they'll need to be sent back BEFORE you get them cemented into your mouth.....this will take another week or so as the lab needs to start all over again in most cases.

visit #7: assumign the lab gets it right the second time, you take delivery in this visit. you will be swollen from novacaine etc so when you leave this visit you will not really be able to tell if you love the shape etc or not because your lips will be mishapen and throw off your smile.

visit#8: further adjustments to your veneers after lips have gone down and gums have healed a bit (after about a week).

That is what happened in my case for the four fabulous veneers I received last week or so. My CD is one of the CD's who worked on one of The Bachelorette shows and he happens to be fantastic, caring, and involved in my procedure so I would go so far as to say the steps I've outlitned are "preferred" as opposed to the 1-2 visit preconception. I payed a hefty price tag for mine.....$1300 each....but the level of attention and care and the quality of the end product has got me to make an appointment with them to get 4 more in a week from now! I'd go as far as to say that I can see why veneers cost so darn much...........it's not a whaml-bam-thankyou-sam approach and shouldn't be. These will be YOUR TEETH!

In sum, I don't see how they could be done from start to finish in one or even two visits, they cost a pretty penny if you go to a great doctor who you can trust and who has tremendous experience, and I wouldn't look for bargains...I'd look for recommendations from others. Mistakes can be made by even the most talented doctor (like the blue spots in my first set of veneers) so you want one who is willing to help and cares that you are happy IN ADDITION to possesing the talent and skill to make you happpy :)

Good luck! You'll love them if/when you get them!!
