I have old (20 years) bonding on my teeth which is very thick %26amp; discolored. My teeth appear to protrude because of it. I am an ideal candidate for veneers but am very nervous -because I have a very "toothy" smile - that I will be very self conscious with the temporary veneers. I'm sure they will have to trim my teeth way back to get to enamel.
Any input would be appreciated!
Should I get porcelain veneers/laminates?
I've got patients in my practice with veneers more that 15 years old. NO I did not place them. I'm mnot touting my skill. The point is, When done correctly and with integritty, They last a very long time, look beautiful and should be fixed by the dentist if they pre-maturely fail.
Based on what you described Veneers that do the best are the ones that are bonded to enamel. The ideal veneer patient is some one with discolored intact enamel, may have some spaces between their teeth, and just wants a little more symmetry. If you have very deep bonding, you have lost all the enamel and only have dentin left. I wouldn't suggest porcelain veneers if you have lost more that 60% of the facial enamel on your teeth, you would be asking for trouble, you may consider full coverage crowns. Cost a bit more %26amp; you dont get that transperency, but it less likely to debond and fail.
good luck with your decision.
Reply:my veneers discolored and came off in no time. It was a big waste of money. 3 rounds of professional bleaching didn't work either. I will need caps on all my front teeth, they are very very dark from med's I took as a child. Don't grind away good enamel if you don't have to, especially for something temporary. Good luck.
Reply:If it will make you feel better about yourself, you should go for it. The temporary veneers may make you feel awkward, but it's only temporary, and you might just smile a little less for a while. Once you have the real veneers, you will smile more than ever! Good luck.
Reply:Ask to see pictures of cosmetic work done by your dentist. Most dental offices keep pictures of their work. A good cosmetic dentist will have GREAT looking temporaries. You can ask your dentist to have their dental lab make an ideal wax up of your smile %26amp; then they can make your temporaries look very similar to that. Good luck.
Reply:Look at my teeth before and after at the link below. I had all the bad teeth crowned and the not so bad ones filled. it was very expensive but my only choice besides getting dentures and i said no way to that.
