If you've had porcelain veneers, did you have any pain or tooth sensitivity after a few weeks? Other problems?

I have some crowded and rotated front teeth and I'm considering getting veneers as an alternative to braces, but I'm concerned about the long term damage to my teeth caused by shaving them down to fit the veneers. Will my teeth continue to crowd causing the veneers to get crooked? The before and after pictures I found on line look great, but I'd love to hear from people who have actually had this done. Thanks for sharing your experience!

veneers don't last forever. You can look foward to replacing them at least 3 times in your life time. If your teeth are perfectly ok, then veneers is a "bandaid cure" and you should really move your teeth into position instead of pretending they are.

After a while your gums can shrink back and the margin where the veneer joins your tooth will be exposed showing a dark line. (from stain usually but sometimes the edge of the veneer is dark) Then you will need them replaced to cover the margin.
Reply:Get the braces,,,if your teeth are in good shape other than being crooked,do NOT grind them..............you need to see a really good dentist or oral surgeon..............please.. DO NOT do anything to an otherwise healthy tooth,or you will end up with a pain in the mouth like I have..and your crooked teeth probably give your smile character,,,,,,,,,
Reply:i have assisted on many cases and i can say if you are a candidate for veneers that you will be very pleased. typically the amount of tooth removed is slight and as long as you continue to care for your teeth properly- there shouldn't be any problems . as far as sensitivity- i have never heard that complaint.

your age is important and you don't give your age so any more info would be pure speculation
Reply:I got my veneers 10 years ago.Never had any problem with them. They gave me the confidence i needed. The only thing i regret is not picking the whitest color.
Reply:Not really. i hade ice cream all the time.. :D yum
Reply:I also wanted veneers but I saw something on Primetime Live or 20/20, I don't know which that made me change my mind. They grind your teeth down to little spikes and some people had to have root canals later due to pain from cold and air, etc. Then they had to get posts put in to stabilize the teeth. One dentist gave some guy three front teeth (instead of the regular two big ones he had three big ones in the front). My teeth aren't that bad to justify grinding them down to nubby spikes like that. I would look into invisiline braces or something else.
Reply:You may still want to do ortho first, then do the cosmetic veneers afterwards to finish up the look you want. You want your bite to be in line for other reasons besides the appearance.
