Are porcelain veneers bad?

I want to get porcelain veneers on my teeth. One of my front teeth had a root canal and is now turning grey. I've had it bleached from the inside and outside, but nothing helps. The problem is that my other teeth are in perfect shape and I hate to ruin them, but my dentist said he wouldn't recommend putting a veneer on just one tooth.

Are porcelain veneers bad?
For Root Canal treated teeth Veneers are not indicated, what you need is a crown. Ask your dentist if you can go to the lab and have custom shade matched.

Once you devitalize a tooth it will eventually become brittle. Veneers do not provide the long term circumferencial strength of a crown. So, typically we crown the tooth to hold it together. A good crown can range any where from $600 - $1500 depending on zip code and dentist. As far as quality that is a crap shoot. I've seen some real crap that cost $1200.00 and seen The most generous Dentist to multiple units for $only a few hundred and Visa Versa. You as the patient have no way of knowing the quality of what goes in your mouth.

OMG I'm if dental assistants were in charge of Dental education in America. We'd all be screwed
Reply:I agree with the dentist. Not only would it be a waste of time to put the veneer on just one, it would then look out of place in it's new size and color. If you get them all done, then the uniform color is present, and your teeth look more natural.
Reply:I don't think they are bad. Just make sure that one tooth (after covered) isn't perfect and white and all your other teeth aren't. Anyways, I think porcelain veneers are beautiful.
Reply:its good.it will not happens any side effects
Reply:Porcelain veneers are very nice and having a veneer placed on all your front teeth would look the best. However, be aware that once you put veneers on your teeth, you will always need veneers. They will need to be replaced periodically (~every 10 years or so). Sometimes, it is possible to put a full porcelain crown on the one tooth and get a nice match, but not always. Good Luck!
Reply:NO, THEY ARE NOT BAD!! You invested some good money into this tooth already by doing a root canal. It is VERY normal for a tooth to turn gray after the root canal is done. If the internal %26amp; external bleaching hasn't worked, then doing a veneer or an all porceline crown will do the trick (read again: if you are going to do a crown on a front tooth, make sure it's going to be ALL PORCELINE!! If their is metal underneath the crown, you will develop a dark line next to the gums). If you really want to change the look of it %26amp; your current dentist doesn't agree with you, get a second opinion. Good luck!
Reply:I think that veneers are probably the best option for your situation. It is very normal for a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy to become discolored due to the lack of nutrients and blood. Also, your dentist is right about getting all of your front teeth veneered. It is very hard to match one veneer to someones natural teeth...especially if the tooth underneath the veneer is discolored (because the porcelain is very thin and transparent). You will get much better results having canine to canine covered. With all the money that you have already invested...you might as well do it right! Veneers last longer than pretty much any other dental restoration and they are much better than full crowns because you conserve your natural tooth structure (you only prep the front of the tooth just a little). As far as the price...they can range depending on the dentist and the area you live in. It will probably cost you around $700 to $1000 per tooth.
