Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?

Hello

I'm making an appointment to get porcelain veneers on my top 6 teeth in a couple of weeks. My dentist charges $650 per tooth. I want them whiter and slightly reshaped. Now, my question is... I want to get the lightest shade possible, but will it look fake?

Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?
The lighter shades are the "in" thing and depending on who is looking at them you will get various opinions. In the dental professional world too white teeth look like piano keys and are very obvious that they are not natural, but people today believe the whiter the better. Look at Regis Philbin of "Who wants to be a Millionaire". His dental work is off-the-scale white, and most people think that is appealing.

What really matters is what you think, and if you like them because you are going to be wearing them (hopefully) for a long time to come.

Some words of advice....Make sure you keep and them very clean and floss daily. You do not want cavities at the juncture point, if you notice the floss catching make sure your dentist checks that area thoroughly. If your teeth are crowded or if you have a history of periodontal (gum) disease veneer should not be an option, they become plaque traps and will cause further problems.

Best of luck
Reply:In order for your veneers to look like natural teeth you really shouldn't venture to far away from the color of your bottom teeth. Even though when we smile our bottom teeth aren't as noticeable as our top teeth when we speak or make facial expressions they are. Look in a mirror and talk, laugh, smile, and make faces and you will see how much of your bottom teeth show.
Reply:Tell your dentist you want to see what the shade B2 looks like with your lower anterior teeth, that is the lightest shade from a normal shade guide. Anything lighter would be a "bleach" shade and that could end up looking fake.

Also, I really reccomend whitening your teeth with in office whitening or even just crest white strips to lighten those lower teeth and upper posteriors before you pick the shade for your new veneers.
Reply:THE DENTIST WILL BASE THE SHADE ON WHAT'S KNOWN AS THE VITA SHADE GUIDE. THE LIGHTEST CHOICE IS B-1.

THERE IS A SCIENCE TO OBTAINING SHADES AND THE REASON YOU DON'T WANT LIGHTER SHADES IS BECAUSE IT WILL NOT MATCH THE REST OF YOUR TEETH IN COLOR.

MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU HAVE ALL YOUR TEETH WHITENED BEFORE YOU HAVE THE FINAL SHADE CHOSEN. YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO BE 40 YEARS OLD WITH THE SHADE OF A TEENS BLEACHED TEETH.

AS A DENTIST I CAN ALWAYS TELL WHICH ADULTS HAVE HAD THEIR TEETH BLEACHED.

YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT A SMILE WHERE YOUR TEETH LOOK FAKE.
