I need help deciding whether to get invisalign or porcelain veneers?

if i get invisalign i have to wear it for 9 months. if i get porcelain veneers i think i might feel fake. i have a gap that i really don't like and would like to change since it's my senior year. can someone help me?

I need help deciding whether to get invisalign or porcelain veneers?
Invisalign is really cool. I've had a friend had it done and his teeth look great. Plus, you couldn't really see anything unless you got really close to look.
Reply:Be very careful with whatever you choose, all the porcelin veneers I have seen look so fake. Get whatever you feel comfortable with. Good luck.

What is the average cost for porcelain veneers?

I am considering getting porcelain veneers to improve my smile./ What is the average cost for a procedure like this?

What is the average cost for porcelain veneers?
I have heard it can be several thousand dollars.
Reply:Depends on where you live. I am an office manager in the mid-west and our veneers are 875.00 each.
Reply:$600.00 per tooth where i live i am about to get them

Please tell me all you know about porcelain veneers?

My tooth(the tooth next to my left front tooth) and it sticks out a little bit and I just want it pushed back so all me teeth are straight. So what would porcelain veneers do. and would my tooth be more noticable with the veneer or just that it sticks out a bit?

Please tell me all you know about porcelain veneers?
You'd have to have the tooth trimmed back so that it did not stick out so much and THEN you'd have to have a little bit more shaved off so the new veneer didn't just make it stick out again. Doing this much grinding might get too close to the nerve and then you'd need to have the nerve removed.

If you want to know all that I know about veneers, you'll have to call me sometime. Yahoo! puts a limit on the length of our answers.

How long does it take to get porcelain veneers on your teeth??

i want porcelain veneers for my top two front teeth would it look weird to get veneers on just two of my teeth? about how much does it cost and how long does the procedure take? i cant stand sitting in the dentists chair for hours!!

How long does it take to get porcelain veneers on your teeth??
900-1500 each, depends on which state you're from. Usually takes about 2-3 hours, depending on how many you want done.
Reply:...and after that 2-3 hour visit, it will take 2-3 weeks before they come back from the lab. Then you will need another hour visit to get them glued in.
Reply:approx. $800-1200 each. First visit about 1-1/12 hours. Two weeks later---45 min-1 hour. It would not look weird for only your two front teeth to be done IF the teeth next to them are a good shape, size and color.

Can you do a root canal on a porcelain veneers?

last yr i had porcelain veneers put on my front teeth, well now one has abscessed and i need a root canal. Can they reuse the veneer or will i have to get a new one? they are $600 EACH i cant see having to buy a brand new one? i also think the dentist is at fault for not taking care of the cavity before putting the veneer on last yr.

Can you do a root canal on a porcelain veneers?
A rootcanal on an anterior tooth is done through the back of the tooth. The only way the veneer would need to be replaced is if there was decay or leakage around any of the margins of the veneer and then they may look at doing a crown verses a veneer because the strength of the tooth has been compromised.

If the veneer is only one year old, did your dentist mention at the time this tooth possibly needing a root canal?

We would not charge full price if the veneer needed to be replaced, you might want to ask your dentist if it does need to be replaced will he discount it being that it was done so recently.
Reply:Since a veneer just goes on the front of your tooth kind of like an artificial fingernail, they should be able to open the tooth by making a small hole in the back of the tooth. They'll do the root canal and seal up the hole with a tooth coloured filling... not even touching your veneer.
Reply:TO DO THE ROOT CANAL IN A FRONT TOOTH THE VENEER WOULD NOT BE RUINED OR REMOVED AT ALL, BECAUSE THE DRILLING IS DONE TO THE BACK OF THE TOOTH AND NOT THE FRONT.

What are the difference between porcelain veneers and composite resin bonding?

I have a gap between my two front teeth. I would like it filled in. What are the prices of porcelain veneers and the bonding, and what is the real differnce. Most importantly, how long does each one last?

What are the difference between porcelain veneers and composite resin bonding?
This is a very hard question to answer without knowing exactly what your teeth look like, how well you care for your teeth, etc. Knowing how comfortable your dentist is with each procedure makes a difference also.

My daughter bugged me and bugged me to do veneers on her teeth. She had some dark spots from medication as a baby (no choice in the matter...) and I agreed that she should have some treatment, but I did not want to place porcelain veneers on her at a young age. Finally, at age 16, I was willing to use bonding for her front six teeth. (Dentists - I only did 6-11, because we were not changing the shade.) My plan was to replace them with porcelain once she was in her 20's. She is now 33 years old and the bonding still looks great. (Dentists - I used Z-100 in 1989. I DID prepare a finish line.)

On the other hand, I have a dental assistant who needed "something" done, but she declined porcelain veneers and asked me to do the same thing that she saw on my daughter's teeth. (She said that she knew porcelain would not last forever and she wanted to delay her "permanent" treatment.) I did the same thing for her and found that she wore them out by excessive brushing, no matter how much I warned her, and we ended up replacing them - ALL of them - every 3 to 4 years. She just wore them down so much that you could see the edges of her natural teeth showing through. After about 10-12 years of playing with these bonded teeth, she FINALLY let me replace them with Empress porcelain crowns this year.

I have many patients (25 or 30) who have had porcelain veneers for 10-15 years with no problems. Frankly, I have not had problems with veneers failing, but I am very selective about who gets to have veneers as opposed to having a full porcelain crown.

So, it is very difficult to answer your question without seeing the conditions in your mouth. Bonding can be an excellent choice and it might last for a long, long time, as it has lasted 17 years for my daughter. Then again, bonding might not hold up more than 3 or 4 years, as it has for my assistant. When veneers are done properly and placed well, they might last for 20 years or more. When they are placed poorly or used where they really are not appropriate, they might not even last a year.

Discuss the pros and cons with your dentist.
Reply:a porcelin veneer is made of porcelin and made in a lab a composit resin is a white filling material......porcelain is more durable although it is far far more expensive but if done by a good lab and good dentist it can last for a long time we had a patient whos veneers were still going after 20years.....I dont think a composite veneer will last that long.....go for veneers definately as for the price it depends where u go nhs or private.....

What can I expect with porcelain veneers?

I'm considereing getting porcelain veneers %26amp; I'm wondering:

- About how much they will cost

- How long they will last

- Is the procedure painful

- Where can I find a good costemic dentist (I live in Charlotte, NC)

What can I expect with porcelain veneers?
veneers can cost $1,000 + per tooth depending on who does them, and the brand they use.

the procedure is not painful, although may cause some sensitivity, because the dentist will grind into your teeth to attached the crown. keep in mind that veneers are something that you will have to maintain for a lifetime, because once they have been placed you will no longer be able to use your natural teeth.

they are usually replaced every 10-15 years due to staining, cracking, damage, etc.

research cosmetic dentists in your area.

go in for an initial appointment and the treatment coordinator will give you a treatment plan with estimated costs.

keep in mind that insurance does not usually cover any costs pertaining to veneers.

Can i get porcelain veneers?

Instead of me having 2 lateral incisors i instead have 2 canine teeth where the incisors are supposed to be. And where my canines are supposed to be there are 2 baby canine teeth. i can't get rid of them cause i was born with these teeth. Could porcelain veneers be covered on these four teeth to make them look natural? Please i need to know.

Thanx!

Can i get porcelain veneers?
absolutlty! Im a registered dental assistant, and we do these all the time. When you say there are 2 baby canines, do you mean bicuspids? which are pre-molars? they're usually behind the canines. You can definatly veneer the front four teeth, but it looks so much better to veneer the 6 front teeth. Make sure your dentist makes the "baby canines" look like actual canines. (pointy or sharp enough to cut meats when you eat. good luck!
Reply:It could be an option but the only way to know for sure is to visit a Dentist who does veneers. (Crowns would be another option.) Try to find a dentist with good references who's willing to show you pictures of his work. Many offer free consultations as well.
Reply:Yes, probably could but this would only make them slightly bigger. Crown would be the better choice, but this is spending a lot of money on teeth that at some point you will lose. Most people go for a while and then the body realizes these teeth are not supposed to be there and they loosen up and fall out. It would be better to consider removing these teeth and doing implants. This is the best choice. Second best choice would be remove these teeth and do a bridge, but implants would be probably about the same price, better looking, and just like real teeth. You just have to be sure to keep them clean, you healthy, no smoking and all is good.

Advice on getting porcelain veneers for my teeth?

I have a gap between my two front teeth, and it bothers me. I want to get it fixed and I've been considering porcelain veneers. I'm curious to know what it's like to have them, does the dentist drill your teeth, how long do they last, how many trips to the dentist it takes to get them on, how long in between trips to the dentist it is, and how they look when they're on?

Also any personal stories about getting a gap fixed are always welcomed!

Please answer this, I'm really curious about it, and would like to act fast on getting my teeth fixed. I've lived with this long enough.

Also sorry about how many questions I've asked, I just want to know about them.

Advice on getting porcelain veneers for my teeth?
If it's only a gap you are trying to have fixed, veneers are over the top and too expensive. Look into something called bonding, which is less expensive and looks more natural. With veneers, they actually remake a tooth for you in the shape you want, and then file down your original tooth into little pegs to attach it, so you can never get away from veneers, you just have to replace them every 10 years.
Reply:Make sure you get reputable Dentist.
Reply:Best thing to do is to actually ask professional dentists, not the saddos like me on here!

And remember, ask as many questions as you can, and get more than one quote for the price and service from many different dentists.

Hope you find happiness with the veneers!

Reply:I waited a very long time to get them and looked forward to it. I didnt have a gap, just had a discoloration on my front tooth but I had all my front teeth done on the top. I was going to get the bottom done but decided not to. I dont like the fact that my original teeth are gone and I can never get them back. That kind of bothers me even if they will always have veneers over them. I didnt realize it would bother me until afterwards. I was talking weird for about a year and had to learn to talk differently because the teeth were just a tad bit farther then my original teeth from my tongue so I had a bit of a lisp until my tongue got used to the new position of the teeth. Also, its a very painful procedure (mostly the shots, I just had my wisdom teeth pulled and that was nothing compared to this, shots dont bother me in the least bit but these shots are put in your gums at the roof of your mouth near your nose so the stuff goes up into your nose and stings like hell there) . I had 2 initial appointments but the dentist messed one of them up so I had to return. He didnt put 1 on straight I guess and all kinds of stuff was getting in there (pepsi food) that was sitting in there on my unprotected teeth. That ruined the tooth underneath so then they had to give me a root canal and tryed to make me pay for the root canal and the new veneer, so I never went back to that dentist office (Its at Mccarthy Ranch in San Jose Ca for anyone reading this). 2 other dentists said that he screwed up and saw the same thing I felt, but they denied anything was wrong and made it seem like I was being picky. The most painful part of the procedure wasnt the drilling or anything, I didnt feel that but it took hours to do. The most painful part was when they grinded my teeth down and the grinded teeth were exposed to air. That was the most painful thing Ive experienced next to breaking my legs when a car hit me. It only lasted like a couple minutes but it was horrible. Your teeth have a protective enamel on them, when that enamel is gone and cold air hits it, it hits the roots of the teeth and hits them all at once. All in all I am glad I got it done but it did bother me for the longest time because I had this lisp that other people didnt notice but i noticed. Im not trying to scare you, but just letting you know about my experience with it. You will feel like frankenstein while they are working on you because its alot of work and your face will be number (and more jacked up) then it ever has from any dentist procedure. Most insurance doesnt cover cosmetic dentistry (mine werent covered) so if money is a problem, I suggest you go to Thailand to have it done. They are just as professional in Bangkok (its a big city like San Francisco or Miami) and you can have it done for 1/3 the price of in USA. Plus they will be nicer to you because Thais are the nicest people on earth.
Reply:KRISTINA,

WHEN I WAS A DENTAL STUDENT I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS YOU. I HAD 4 OPTIONS TO CLOSE MY GAPS.

1= BRACES

2=VENEERS

3=CROWNS

4=BONDING

I CHOSE BRACES

WHY?

NOTHING WAS ALTERED TO MY TEETH AT ALL AND AFTER ALL WAS SAID AND DONE I HAVE A GREAT SMILE. I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS CHIPPING OR BREAKING OR FADING WITH AGE.

WAS ALL THE TROUBLE AND TIME WORTH IT? AFTER BECOMING A DENTIST I KNOW I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. CROWNS OR VENEERS DON'T LAST FOREVER, BRACES ARE FOREVER.

Orthodontic treatment and porcelain veneers?

I just got my braces off a few months ago and am still not happy with my results. I just wanted to know (because I have to continue wearing a retainer for several years) how long it will be until I'll be able to get porcelain veneers. Maybe if I get them bonded (also because my teeth are loose), I would be able to get them sooner than I would before with the retainer.

Any input would be extremely appreciated ^^

Orthodontic treatment and porcelain veneers?
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. Heather is correct, however I would not even consider the veneers if your teeth are still lose. The veneers would not fit right and until you teeth tighten up you don't know exactly where they will end up. Even a space the thickness of a piece of paper could offset the veneers proper fit. Also I personally would not drill down teeth that had just recently moved into their last place. However, you do have another option. If you were to get a permanent retainer cemented in back of your anterior upper teeth, that would give you a better option to get them sooner. BUT this is between the three of you. Both your Ortho and dentist need to agree this is an option for you. AND you need to have a heart to heart with both of them. Veneers are not always an option if you are looking to over size your teeth. You must make a realistic decision. I've had patients that wanted veneers because they thought their teeth were too small and I tried to show them that they would look like Chiclets. When I refused they had it done elsewhere and they were typically upset with the results. So please discuss this honestly with both and make a good decision from there. Good luck! M
Reply:Please re-think your decision on veneers. Your ortho treatment should have corrected all of your dental problems, are you sure you aren't just being over critical of your self? Report It

Reply:If you are in a retainer now, you shouldn't have any problems with having dental work done. The teeth aren't going to be moved any more than what they have been; the retainer holds them in their current position. Discuss your concerns with your dentist, he will advise you in your dental care.

Has anybody gotten porcelain veneers in CT, or at all?

I really want to get porcelain veneers but i want to make sure i go to someone who knows what there doing. I live in the waterbury.

Any suggestions? Anything i should know before hand?

Has anybody gotten porcelain veneers in CT, or at all?
The skill level of the doc is key in cosmetic dentistry. Make a consultation appointment and ask to see their before and after book so you can get an idea of the quality of their work. If they don't have a before and after book of their own work (not pics from dental products folks) you should walk out. Take your time and make sure you get someone great.

Can you put porcelain veneers over caps and nearby real teeth?

My two front teeth are crowns and are about 28 years old. They are chipped, I was wondering if you can put porcelain veneers over them plus the fronth teeth next to them and about how much woulld that cost? My dentist put a little bit of bonding over one tooth about 12 years ago. Or, would I have to get new caps to replace them? Thanks.

Can you put porcelain veneers over caps and nearby real teeth?
You can not put veneers over crowns. You can have the crowns removed and new ones put on. Then have veneers on the teeth next to them, or crowns is that is what is necessary.

Cost varies by dentist. Even in this city. Porcelain crowns can go from $450 - $900. Veneers are usually about half that.

Check with your dentist about your options and what he/she is willing to do, and how much they charge. Go to several dentists to get different opinions and price options.
Reply:yeah i just had my front teeth done, im not sure because insurance covered mine and all dentists are differnt.

they will either gring down your teeth that are chipped or like mine, they were caps that had been on about 15 yrs they just removed them and then put the veeneers over the original tooth
Reply:While it is theoretically possible to put a veneer over an existing crown, I would not do it unless it was to "save" a really huge case where there was damage to one unit of porcelain and the other 8 or 10 were okay.

The best thing to do would be to just get new caps on the middle teeth and consider veneers for the others. Frankly, the cost of caps and veneers is usually the same anyway, so you won't be saving anything if you try to get venners over your caps.
Reply:When you had the procedure done for your crowns alot of tooth structure was taken away which would make it impossible to place veneers on those teeth.

It sounds like you need new crowns. Since you have already had this procedure done once before it will be quicker. The dentist will remove your old crowns and reprep your teeth. You will have impressions taken of your exsisting teeth for temps and an impression after the prep is complete will go to the lab.

These crowns are old and it may be time to replace them.

The price will depend on your state and the area you live in. Some labs charge more than others to fabricate crowns and this is a big factor in the price.

Who has had Porcelain Veneers? Im thinking about getting them?

My teeth are badly mottled and have been scince my childhood. Sometimes my teeth actually look normal then most times they are badly mottled. I have been told this is because of the way the light shines on them but this doesnt seem to be right. I dont smile alot because I dont want to show them so im thinking about getting Porcelain Veneers. Does anyone know if they hurt as i know they shave a few layers off your teeth to put them on and are they approx $500 a tooth?

If anyone has info i would greatly appreciate it.

Who has porcelain veneers??how much are they??

im going wed. to a cosmetic dentist and i believe that im going to need 6 porcelain veneers does anyone know how much this is going to cost?

Who has porcelain veneers??how much are they??
It is not 1000 dollars a tooth. I have four empress veneers and it cost me about 400 per tooth. Keep in mind that they have to grind your teeth down to put them on so it's permanent. If I had known that beforehand I might not have gotten it done. But I had a crack in one tooth so I had to do it. I'm very happy with them and get complements on my smile all the time. If you do end up getting them, don't eat sunflower seeds or crunchy foods for about 6 months. And try to use your unveneered teeth to bite down on foods as much as possible.
Reply:about a thousand dollars a tooth. Smile Pretty !!!!
Reply:I have several. My total dental bill was over $5,000.00. But, I had other stuff done. It all depends on the dentist, %26amp; if he is in private practice or part of a business company. After 5 or more years, you might have a black discoloration around the top of the veneers. This is a result of gum receding around the metal peg. Good Luck %26amp; BLessings

Hello i was wonderind if porcelain veneers are good or not?need help badly answer ASAP?
I have veneers and I'm really glad I got them. they look 100% real. Anyone I tell, they are like "no way!" They feel natural, too.

Mine cost about $700 per tooth. It depends where you live and how good of a dentist you get.

My dentist told me they last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. It really depends on how well you take care of them. I know someone who has had them for 25 years.

You will have to be careful, though. No more biting into apples or hard breads. No more eating corn on the cob or beef ribs, either!
Reply:I read they look like normal teeth, just very white. I also read the cost is at least 700 dollars per tooth..
Reply:My dentist told me the secret to veneers looking natural is not to make them super white that makes them look fakey! If your teeth are good, I would discourage you, but if your teeth are unattractive it can improve self confidence. Make sure you use a dentist who has a good reputation and well know. You don't want to risk this major project to an amateur.

Can porcelain dental veneers be whitened?

I have porcelain veneers that seem discolored. Can I have these whitened?

Can porcelain dental veneers be whitened?
No, they cannot be whitened. The only way to change the color is to have them removed and have new ones made and placed.
Reply:sure they can! go to the dentist that gave you them and tell him or her. But it really depends on what doctor you have so that is all i know!
Reply:sure. get some comet or some of that soft scrub

What is the difference between Porcelain veneers and Lava veneers?

Someone I know just got veneers put on their teeth. They asked for Porcelain veneers but the dentist put Lava veneers in their mouth. Is there a difference? If so, what is it?

What is the difference between Porcelain veneers and Lava veneers?
Lava veneers are a porcelain veneer, but it's suppose to be a stronger type of porcelain.
Reply:Yah. One's porcelain and the other one's lava.

Can Porcelain Veneers correct a mildly gummy smile?

I had braces for three years. Now that I have had the braces off for a little while, I am starting to notice in pictures and when I smile that I have a little bit of a gummy smile. Especially when I am laughing. Because of that, I try not to smile real big. I just feel like my teeth are small.

I have heard of gum surgery to correct it, but I don't think it is that drastic enough for a surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew if Porcelain Veneers could correct a mildly gummy smile like mine? Please look at my photos. Thanks.

Can Porcelain Veneers correct a mildly gummy smile?
Check w/ your Dentist. Your gums may be inflamed (swollen, periodontal disease) only time, good brushing (not hard they will bleed) and flossing will help. Lots of people who get their braces off have problems w/ swollen gums. Its hard to get your teeth really clean w/ braces on.

PS nice looking smile. Your teeth are the right size.
Reply:oh i think you have lovely teeth,i would not change them,do you ever notice that some stars who have venners when they smile in pics you can also see there gums so i dont think it will correct it,your pic looks fine you have a really lovely smile xxx

Can porcelain veneers be trimmed?

I've had porcelain veneers on my upper canines for a couple of months. They look nice. However, they are bigger and longer than my canines used to be and it feels unconfortable. Is it possible to trim them in order to make them smaller and shorter? Or would they need to be replaced?

Can porcelain veneers be trimmed?
Porcelain veneers can definitely be trimmed but within certain limits. Shortening veneers is not a problem. Making

"bigger" veneers look smaller may not be possible. If by bigger you mean too thick, it is probably not possible to thin them without weakening them. The same would be true if by bigger you mean they are too wide.

It would be best to check with the dentist who placed the veneers.

I hope this helps.

Do porcelain veneers need to be replaced?? Also, if they need replacement, can I get it done with the NHS???

I've had mine put in on four of my upper front teeth in June 2000. They still look good now, aren't chipped, etc... but I heard that porcelain veneers have to be replaced after an x amount of years. I've always been meticulous about caring for my teeth, flossing daily, brushing thoroughly, rinsing with Corsodyl, etc.

My question is, must I replace them in 2010 even if they aren't chipped or damaged, or can I wait until the day they get chipped or damaged to get them replaced?? They are expensive!

Also, if they need to be replaced, can I have them replaced on the NHS (NOT free of charge, of course)... but would an NHS dentist do it for a cost? I'd rather have an NHS dentist do it instead of a private dentist, because correct me if I'm wrong, but I think private dentists always will charge more than an NHS dentist even if its for cosmetic jobs? What do you think?

Do porcelain veneers need to be replaced?? Also, if they need replacement, can I get it done with the NHS???
Think of Veneers like a false fingernail, if you look after them, they can last for a long time, if you are careless with them, then they are fairly fragile.

There is no set time limit to have them changed or replaced and a good set should last for a number of years before they need replacing.

Veneers will need to be etched and bonded onto the tooth surface and depending upon how well they are bonded onto the tooth will depend upon how long they last.

Veneers are used used more on front teeth for appearance purposes and give a good aesthetic results.

You cannot usually get veneers replaced under the NHS and you will need to have them done privately once they need replacing.

Hope that this helps

"The Dental Solicitor"
Reply:where do you get the idea they have to be replaced, you only have to if they need to be,so stop worrying
Reply:If theres nothing wrong aesthetic or pain wise then just leave them be, a decent dentist will only replace them when they do start looking dodgy or you are having problems with them. If he/she does suggest replacement then it should be done on the NHS provided you are under an NHS dentist.
Reply:there is actually no need to replace untill you have problem of discoloration or chipping as you said ..but it is always better to have a review in half yearly duration with your dentist, inorder to evaluate the health of the gums and maintanence of the venners.
Reply:Hello,

Veneers do not last a lifetime and will need replacing in time. At the practice I work at, we advise 10 years for the life of crowns, veneers and bridges, etc.

It is impossible to say when you'll need them replaced, but as long as you care for them well I am sure they will last a decent amount of time. Don't bite onto anything too hard and floss daily, as well as brushing with a flouride toothpaste. Caring for your veneers will, obviously, prolong their lifespan.

I have seen patients with veneers who have had them for 20+ years. However, a friend of mine had to have hers replaced just a few months after she had them done, but that was due to a chip to the veneer from eating chicken! I also recently saw a patient who needed his replacing because they were no longer the colour of his other teeth.

Did you have your veneers done because you clinically needed them or did you have them done cosmetically?

If there is something clinically wrong with a veneer an NHS will replace it. However, if there is absolutely nothing clinically wrong with the veneer and you simply want it replacing for cosmetic reasons an NHS dentist will not carry out the treatment under an NHS treatment plan. He/she may still carry out the treatment, but under a private basis.

I hope this helps.

Keep smiling.

Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?

Hello

I'm making an appointment to get porcelain veneers on my top 6 teeth in a couple of weeks. My dentist charges $650 per tooth. I want them whiter and slightly reshaped. Now, my question is... I want to get the lightest shade possible, but will it look fake?

Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?
The lighter shades are the "in" thing and depending on who is looking at them you will get various opinions. In the dental professional world too white teeth look like piano keys and are very obvious that they are not natural, but people today believe the whiter the better. Look at Regis Philbin of "Who wants to be a Millionaire". His dental work is off-the-scale white, and most people think that is appealing.

What really matters is what you think, and if you like them because you are going to be wearing them (hopefully) for a long time to come.

Some words of advice....Make sure you keep and them very clean and floss daily. You do not want cavities at the juncture point, if you notice the floss catching make sure your dentist checks that area thoroughly. If your teeth are crowded or if you have a history of periodontal (gum) disease veneer should not be an option, they become plaque traps and will cause further problems.

Best of luck
Reply:In order for your veneers to look like natural teeth you really shouldn't venture to far away from the color of your bottom teeth. Even though when we smile our bottom teeth aren't as noticeable as our top teeth when we speak or make facial expressions they are. Look in a mirror and talk, laugh, smile, and make faces and you will see how much of your bottom teeth show.
Reply:Tell your dentist you want to see what the shade B2 looks like with your lower anterior teeth, that is the lightest shade from a normal shade guide. Anything lighter would be a "bleach" shade and that could end up looking fake.

Also, I really reccomend whitening your teeth with in office whitening or even just crest white strips to lighten those lower teeth and upper posteriors before you pick the shade for your new veneers.
Reply:THE DENTIST WILL BASE THE SHADE ON WHAT'S KNOWN AS THE VITA SHADE GUIDE. THE LIGHTEST CHOICE IS B-1.

THERE IS A SCIENCE TO OBTAINING SHADES AND THE REASON YOU DON'T WANT LIGHTER SHADES IS BECAUSE IT WILL NOT MATCH THE REST OF YOUR TEETH IN COLOR.

MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU HAVE ALL YOUR TEETH WHITENED BEFORE YOU HAVE THE FINAL SHADE CHOSEN. YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO BE 40 YEARS OLD WITH THE SHADE OF A TEENS BLEACHED TEETH.

AS A DENTIST I CAN ALWAYS TELL WHICH ADULTS HAVE HAD THEIR TEETH BLEACHED.

YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT A SMILE WHERE YOUR TEETH LOOK FAKE.

Can porcelain veneers increase the size of your teeth?

I have relatively small teeth and I was wondering whether or not porcelain veneers can increase their size as well as change the shape.

Can porcelain veneers increase the size of your teeth?
Yes, no problem. That is a problem most veneer patients wish they had.
Reply:yes they can its a cap that gets glued to your teeth. but why would you want bigger teeth or are you worried they will be bigger. if they are done right you will never know that you have them
Reply:yes. they can change the size, shape, and color of your teeth. but there are side effect and problems with them. they are harder to keep clean then natural teeth and can pop off. plus they dont last forever and will have to be replaced about every 10 to 15 years.
Reply:yes they can...but only if there is enough space to allow this "enlarging" (for lack of a better word, lol) to occur.

Will porcelain veneers stain with coffee, tea, ciggaretts and root beer?

I am not a candidate for bleaching for many reasons. I need to know if porcelain veneers ( a huge investment) can stand the test of time and continue to be white and stain free while still smoking and drinking coffee and tea.

Will porcelain veneers stain with coffee, tea, ciggaretts and root beer?
No, porcelain veneers will not change color. The color you and your dentist choose will be the color of your veneers forever. You're investing a large sum of money into your mouth and you need protect that investment. If you smoke and drink a lot of coffee you may get slight surface staining, but that can easily be removed with regular cleanings from your hygienist. As for longevity, you should be a little more careful about eating certain foods. Don't crack sunflower seeds or rip beef jerky with your veneers. If something does break or crack most dentists and their labs will give a 5 year warranty.
Reply:From what I understand, yes.
Reply:Yes, eventually they will stain- not to mention- they are all things your body will do well without!

You will pay for them in no time with all of the money you will save from not buying cancer sticks anymore!!

Good luck!
Reply:Yes, but it brushes away. You may have to spend a little time brushing. And if you can't do it, your dentist or dental hygienist can.

For investment purposes figure a life of 20 years.
Reply:no they don't stain the composite laminates stain and porcelain chips easily
Reply:YES porcelain veneers will stain. Brushing 3 times a day will help. Also try drinking through a straw, it may sound silly to drink coffee through a straw but it helps. Regular 6 month cleaning appointments will help keep your veneers looking good.
Reply:The answer is no. Veneers when properly glazed will not stain.

Are Porcelain Veneers a good idea?

I've been wanting porcelain veneers for quite a while now, and I've done quite a bit of research on them, short of talking to a cosmetic dentist. I do not know any person that has had the procedure and am still curious. Do any of you out there have them and, if so, are they a good choice? Is it worth the cost, or worth the fact that it is an irreversibe process? Any input is greatly appreciated...thanks.

Are Porcelain Veneers a good idea?
if you are really not happy with your teeth, then go for it. i think that anything that makes you feel better about yourself is worth it. as long as you have researched it and still want it, go for it. i wouldn't worry about the irreversibility of it. i have also researched it, and it doesn't seem like anything can really go wrong.
Reply:I have porcelain veneers on my front six teeth and i love them. getting them was one of the best decisions i ever made Report It

Porcelain Veneers? Should I get them?

I should have listened to people when I was a teenager about how Bulimia can really hurt your teeth. But like many teenage girls, I was so concerned about my weight that I didn't care, so I remained a bulimic from age 15 to age 18. I wish I would have listened to people back then because now I'm 26 and me teeth are HORRIBLE. I can't even show my teeth if I smile now. I brush three times a day, but my teeth are so messed up that I can't even stand flossing because it hurts so much and the stuff gets stuck in the crevices/ruts of my teeth. The entire front rows are both eroded to hell. I've had some root canals done on a few of them, but everything is still really depressing the hell out of me. Should I get porcelain veneers or go through with ten more root canals? Please help. Any advice would be good.

And also if there are teenage girls out there reading this, please don't try bulimia. It will butcher your teeth in the long run. %26lt;33

Porcelain Veneers? Should I get them?
go to ur dentist and ask what they recomend. iv hurd porcelain veneers are really nice
Reply:If you can afford it, go for it! It will give you a nice set of choppers and will also make you feel good about your self, well worth it!
Reply:veneers are a good solution to teeth that have issues with their enamel. Bulimia erodes the enamel from the acid, so there is no real good way to build it back up. As for the veneers, you have to be a candidate for them first. If you have a correct bite and are OK with having to be more careful with your teeth than the average person, i say go for it. However!! root canals are due to your nerve being infected or dying because of the old trauma. Just because you get a veneer does not mean that in the end the nerve wont die anyway. You spent years damaging them and now they are unfortunately paying the price. However, veneers are a good choice and can help your confidence and self esteem. One suggestion, don't go for the big, super white superstar looking ones, they end up looking like dentures. Go for a light natural shade and average shape. Good luck!
Reply:It depends which teeth and portion have enamel erosion. Veneers may be the perfect answer for your front teeth. If back of the teeth also have erosion, then only crowns can provide the real protection. As you say you need root canals done, then veneers are ruled out as procelain crowns would be the essential choice. Look for dental work done overseas in countries like Thailand, Singapore, India, etc. You may check up with Dental Care India Tour for total package cost.

Porcelain veneers, advice about teeth please help + bulimia!!?

i have booked a consultation with a cosmetic dentist. my teeth arent majorly bad, just abit worn for the four front ones and discoloured. however i suffered from bulimia as a young teen and my teeth just remind me of that horrible time. i have made a complete recovery and have had two pregnancys since. has anyone had porcelain veneers done? i am thinking of having the top 6 teeth done and then teeth bleaching, does this sound ok? or do you have to have them all done to get a decent result? im worried about being ripped off and told i need more than i actually do. xxxxxx cheers xxxxxxxx

Porcelain veneers, advice about teeth please help + bulimia!!?
BLEACH THE TEETH FIRST!!!

Then, get veneers on the teeth that need them, and the dentist can make them match the other teeth exactly.. but once he picks the shade for the veneers, they can't be whitened any more.

Oh, and also, your veneers won't glow under a blacklight like your regular teeth do. Looks weird at a nightclub, like you have missing teeth.
Reply:How you priced getting them done? I was told $850.00 a tooth. To me that is crazy and from what I was told if you dont have them all done then it will look bad. Even with bleaching your teeth will not look like the veneers.
Reply:probaly beer talk now but stick too what youve got cosmetic stuff looks good but who wants a doll?
Reply:speak to the dentist you see: do not bleach your teeth if you have been bulimic! your teeth will already have weakend enamel and belaching them will worsen this: you could at best have VERY sensitve teeth-even more then you do now, and at worst loose theeth as the enamel is no longer there to protect them.

Bleaching teeth will loss of emaile will not only weaken them, it puts them at even more risk of turning yellow again, you cant drink any tea or coffee of coke, diet or otherwise as it will turn your teeth back to yellow again, your teeth are weaker as a result of the bulimia and it will make it even worse.

Please speak to a dental specialist about this, the veneers are a good idea of your teeth are bad and your bulimia is gone, they cost alot and need to be replaced after about 10-15 years, but can make your teeth appear better looking, but beaching if your teeth are already knackered is really not something I would recommend.

Porcelain veneers, can they be bad fo your teeth?

ok so they put them on over your teeth and cover them... wouldn't that hurt your teeth by not being able to clean the tooth itself with your toothbrush? from people who have porcelain veneers have you ever had any pain you think may be caused by them? or is there something I haven't heard about them?

Porcelain veneers, can they be bad fo your teeth?
Well, PV's are expensive number one and they don't last forever. Generally they last for 10-15 years with proper care.

The veneer fits over your tooth like an acrylic nail does over your real nail. It's adhered with cement so it's on there pretty tightly. You still are able to floss and take care of your teeth as you always have.

Your tooth is prepared before they apply the veneer by removing some of your tooth enamel. This means you will always need to wear the veneers because your teeth will be compromised.

You may have some tooth sensitivity, but for the most part they don't cause pain and they can help you go from an ok smile to a great smile.

Take care of them and they'll last for quite awhile.

Porcelain Veneers on NHS. UK only?

I cannot afford treatment to get porcelain veneers on NHS. I have had bad teeth for years and it affects my life so much. I feel uncomfortable at work and don't like to meet new people as I'm too embarassed of my teeth. I was told I could apply for it to be done on the NHS on the basis I can explain it's a neccessity.

Advice on places I can get it done cheap would be a bonus. I've checked out places in prague etc as they say it's cheaper but the travel costs add up too.

Serious replies please. Any insulting messages will be reported.

Porcelain Veneers on NHS. UK only?
Find a dentist that provides Denplan %26amp; who will take on NHS. Have the first appointment so that they can make sure that no major work (apart from the Veneers) needs doing. They will then sign you up for Denplan. You will need to find a dentist who does Denplan Enhance. Check their website to find a dentist in your area. Once you sign up with Denplan you will have to make a payment each month. Denplan Enhance allows you to borrow the money and spread the payments over 3 years.

To get Veneers on the NHS is very slim but do try talking to your Dentist and or Doctor to say that it is really affecting your life. They may suggest having the teeth removed and having screwed in dentures.

All you can do is try.
Reply:I dont that you could get that done on the NHS, even if your teeth are that bad. Sorry.
Reply:Check with your doctor. If you can swing it to prove its causing a mental problem, you may get the treatment free.
Reply:sorry you will not get that done on nhs
Reply:Try and ask your dentist if you could have the ones you see the most like your top four front and explain that you cant afford to pay all in one go,he may let you pay weekly for them, thay are normally around£80 each.Tried to get my daughters done and nhs wouldnt, however i managed to pursuade dentist to do something similar which was done with plastic and was free, only that method needed to be replaced more often.
Reply:Talk to your dentist, or if you don't have one make an appointment for a consult regarding composite veneers with a few. Make sure you know how much the consult will cost and if that cost is deferred off your bill when work is done. Composite veneers have been around for a long time, some dentist do them and some don't. They are basically just a filling material shaped over your prepped teeth. They require less tooth structure to be removed and less chair time as well. No impression to be sent off to the lab and having to wear tempories for weeks. They are not as natural looking as veneers or your natural tooth for that matter. The light just doesn't go thru them the same as your natural tooth and they dry faster also which can give them a dull or lifeless appearance. But they are a lot less expensive. If you really are in bad shape, there are places, and sometimes doctors who do work for free just to help people out. You might start with your church or just calling some dental offices and asking. It never hurts to try and I know we've done cases several times last year. Good luck!
Reply:all NHS practises charge the same price in England its 179 GBP in Wales 177 GBP no matter how many veneers you have if you can prove its clinically necessary or your dentist can ask the general dental practice board for permission

Are porcelain veneers bad?

I want to get porcelain veneers on my teeth. One of my front teeth had a root canal and is now turning grey. I've had it bleached from the inside and outside, but nothing helps. The problem is that my other teeth are in perfect shape and I hate to ruin them, but my dentist said he wouldn't recommend putting a veneer on just one tooth.

Are porcelain veneers bad?
For Root Canal treated teeth Veneers are not indicated, what you need is a crown. Ask your dentist if you can go to the lab and have custom shade matched.

Once you devitalize a tooth it will eventually become brittle. Veneers do not provide the long term circumferencial strength of a crown. So, typically we crown the tooth to hold it together. A good crown can range any where from $600 - $1500 depending on zip code and dentist. As far as quality that is a crap shoot. I've seen some real crap that cost $1200.00 and seen The most generous Dentist to multiple units for $only a few hundred and Visa Versa. You as the patient have no way of knowing the quality of what goes in your mouth.

OMG I'm if dental assistants were in charge of Dental education in America. We'd all be screwed
Reply:I agree with the dentist. Not only would it be a waste of time to put the veneer on just one, it would then look out of place in it's new size and color. If you get them all done, then the uniform color is present, and your teeth look more natural.
Reply:I don't think they are bad. Just make sure that one tooth (after covered) isn't perfect and white and all your other teeth aren't. Anyways, I think porcelain veneers are beautiful.
Reply:its good.it will not happens any side effects
Reply:Porcelain veneers are very nice and having a veneer placed on all your front teeth would look the best. However, be aware that once you put veneers on your teeth, you will always need veneers. They will need to be replaced periodically (~every 10 years or so). Sometimes, it is possible to put a full porcelain crown on the one tooth and get a nice match, but not always. Good Luck!
Reply:NO, THEY ARE NOT BAD!! You invested some good money into this tooth already by doing a root canal. It is VERY normal for a tooth to turn gray after the root canal is done. If the internal %26amp; external bleaching hasn't worked, then doing a veneer or an all porceline crown will do the trick (read again: if you are going to do a crown on a front tooth, make sure it's going to be ALL PORCELINE!! If their is metal underneath the crown, you will develop a dark line next to the gums). If you really want to change the look of it %26amp; your current dentist doesn't agree with you, get a second opinion. Good luck!
Reply:I think that veneers are probably the best option for your situation. It is very normal for a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy to become discolored due to the lack of nutrients and blood. Also, your dentist is right about getting all of your front teeth veneered. It is very hard to match one veneer to someones natural teeth...especially if the tooth underneath the veneer is discolored (because the porcelain is very thin and transparent). You will get much better results having canine to canine covered. With all the money that you have already invested...you might as well do it right! Veneers last longer than pretty much any other dental restoration and they are much better than full crowns because you conserve your natural tooth structure (you only prep the front of the tooth just a little). As far as the price...they can range depending on the dentist and the area you live in. It will probably cost you around $700 to $1000 per tooth.

Question on porcelain veneers?

ok my question is.. i have 2 fake teeth which are my 2 front teeth.. my teeth are a little crooked and my 2 fake teeth my old dentist made a little to large.. dentists have told me that i should get porcelain veneers.. cause they are better than what i have now..meaning better than whatever my fake teeth are made from.. my 4 front teeth are a little crooked and i think if i get the 2 front teeth fixed and get the porcelain veneers that ive been told i should get.. they could possilby shapen my teeth and make it look straighter and close up my space and one tooth is slightly going in front of the other.. so they can some how straighten that.. what do you guys think?? and what is the price for 2 teeth.. i am expecting a baby and have doctor payments does the dentists accept payment plans... or how did you pay for it? im thinkin of this now because i have insurance.. that could cover part of it possibly

Question on porcelain veneers?
If you have two "fake" teeth already, it sounds like the teeth are already crowned. These teeth can't be changed to veneers, they would need to be replaced with new crowns. (Veneeers are facings, crowns encopass the entire tooth) Are you sure your dentist didn't mention porcelain crowns?

Either way, veneers or crowns can be expensive, in our area $850.00-$1200.00 a piece and no they don't usually accept a payment plan, but they do accept major credit cards.
Reply:If you have 2 fake front teeth then you probably have 2 crowns. You cannot take off the crowns and do veneers. It is just not possible. I would get a second opinion from another dentist if I were you! If you only have fillings on the teeth then veneers would be a great option. You can have them shaped how you want them. Just make sure that you look at them before the dentist bonds them on to see if you like them. If you don't, then have them remade until you like them.

In our office we charge $1100 per veneer, so they are expensive, and most insurance companies will not pay for them because they are considered cosmetic. Have the billing person in the office do a pre-authorization for you. Once that comes back you can talk to the dentist about payment options. Most are open to monthly payments. If he is not, check into Care Credit.

How durable are porcelain veneers?

I have a large gap between my teeth and have decided to get porcelain veneers. I need six veneers. After talking with my dentist, he said I could chip or break them if I bite into bacon that is too hard, or if I bite my nails(bad habit), and that I will need to wear a mouthguard at night so I don't grind them off. I really want to improve my smile and confidence, and orthadontics are not an option. Will the porcelain veneers hold up or will I regret this decision and be ultimately left with broken teeth that I won't be able to afford to fix? Would someone KNOWLEDGEABLE steer me in the right direction or give some advice?

How durable are porcelain veneers?
I've had mine for a few years now. Yes , they are somewhat fragile, but part of that depends on the shape of the veneers %26amp; the leftover shape of the remaining tooth underneath (the dentist has to file down your tooth to allow the veneers to attach). I still bite my nails on occasion %26amp; that hasn't caused any problems, but biting into a hard biscotti caused one veneer to be popped off a couple of times (each more than a year apart), so the dentist changed the underlying tooth shape to help it hold better %26amp; there's been no problems since. Out of 6 veneers, that was the only one that has ever given me any problems, so that's pretty good results as I view them. What that means is that if your eating a very hard food that you know may cause you problems, break or cut it into small pieces so you don't have to use the veneers to bite them %26amp; can chew with your back, non-veneered teeth. Good luck %26amp; enjoy your new smile!
Reply:well I have them to .. there can be fragile .. I have the divinci veneers good luck/ and be gentle with them
Reply:There is not a lot of price difference between the veneers and a real crown. You might ask if the real deal is an option.

Cutting up your food instead of biting into it is a good solution. Chips inthe veneers will occur if you eat hard candy

etc as your dentist said. I have seen them last 20 years. i have seen beautiful ones, and horrible jobs as far as tooth color and shape. Has he shown you pictures of finished cases or provided previous patients to call and ask them how they like it/ There is a hippa law which prevents them doing so unless the patient says okay so may not be possible. I was wondering why braces were not an option. They don't take much over ayear anymore and more adults do them children, the retainer would be all you need to do to keep them perfect( one night a week at the end- and no matter what any one says, do that until your old and gray.)

Are your teeth a shade you like?after you get venners, they will not discolor and your natural teeth will. The color difference could be a problem later in life . After 30 years and thousands of patients doing it all different ways, it boils down to one - your habits, two your finances, and three the time span you are wishing to do. some dentists can actually place the composite to fill the gap. Cheaper fast and won't chip . Again, only as good as the dentist who places it. Can be replaced if they discolor.
Reply:I place veneers in one visit. If there are more than 4 I will take more than one appointment. Once bonded in, the bond should last for a very long time provided a few guidelines are met: there is a dry field, use of a good bonding agent and porcelain conditioner, solid enamel left to bond too, and no interferences with your bite. The last guideline is the most important as most of my failures (veneers popping off) have been due to patients eating and sliding their jaw in a certain way that dislodges the veneer off at some acute angle.

It is important that you wear a nightguard, most people are not aware of weird movements in their mouths while sleeping. A nightguard can fix this.

Another thing you will have to be aware of is the type of porcelain used can be very abrasive to the opposing teeth so expect some wear on the opposing arch. My recommendation is find a dentist who can do CEREC or Empress Veneers, this is a feldspathic porcelain that closely resembles the wear patters of natural enamel. Thus, it will wear down the same as natural enamel and is nowhere near as abrasive as other porcelains. A well trained CEREC dentist can do this for you in one visit even. Good luck in your quest, veneers are usually a slam dunk procedure in fixing someone's smile in one or two visits. It all depends on those factors I listed above.

Porcelain veneers or Bonded Veneers?

I'm getting veneers next month to get solid color teeth in the front instead of decalcification. Can someone tell me if porcelain or bonded veneers would be a better option? Thanks

Porcelain veneers or Bonded Veneers?
Bonding and veneers are two different things completely. Bonding is a composite resin, plastic filling material that is bonded to the teeth. It can stain and wear out and usually needs replacing every 5 to 7 years. Porcelain veneers are like false fingernails. They cover the facing of the tooth and wrap around the sides. They don't stain and are meant to be permanent. Of course, there is a substantial difference in the cost between both options.

Attached are links that illustrate the differences.

Porcelain veneers or Bonded Veneers?
I had 4 bondings on my upper front teeth for many years. I was constantly having my boss (dentist) repair them. They stained and chipped alot. Porcelain veneers are so much more natural looking because they have a bit of translucency to them, not just a piece of composite on there. I've had my porcelains now for 10 years and not one has had to be replaced. The cost difference though is something to take into consideration. Huge difference in price with the porcelains being the more expensive of the two. Composite bondings have changed though since I had them in the early 1990's....the material is stronger and more natural looking....so maybe they'd work for you. If you have habits that stain your teeth (smoking, coffee, cola) I'd sure lean toward the porcelains though. Good luck....hope this helped.

*yes, i just went in and edited my typo....sheesh i end up with weird typos sometimes*
Reply:I used to work as an assistant for a cosmetic dentist. Porcelain is more expensive but more permanent. They will last for many years. With porcelain, they are actually made at a lab and cemented into place. Bonding is done right in the dental office. Bonding is temporary and may only last a year or less. I have seen bonding last for a few years but that has been the exception to the rule. The material for bonding is not as strong. Also bonding can stain (turn more yellow) but porcelain will not. If you don't have the money for porcelain, bonding is a great temporary option so you can save up some money. Hope this helps! Good luck!
Reply:my front teeth have bonded veneers, Porcelain are better, my dentist told me so.. and my one tooth keeps chipping nd i always have to go get it fixed. (I'm only 20) and once i have dental insurance again and have a good job I'm going to get Porcelain veneers. (my teeth were just spaced out and small. )

Getting porcelain veneers to replace plastic ones.?

have had plastic veneers for ages and am frustrated with how fake they look. I know veneers that are porcelain look more natural but the reason I got the plastic ones in the first place was to cover eroded front teeth and the dentist tells me he will have to take off more enamel to put the porcelain veneers on. That's what I don't want, more enamel off. I fear if any more enamel comes off I wont have any of my real tooth left. What to do

Getting porcelain veneers to replace plastic ones.?
Porcelain Veneers are definitely far better in terms of life and esthetics as compared to plastic veneers. Very good decision to have opted for same. But if you want them to be cemented directly on to your teeth, your cosmetic dentist may oblige only if you do not complain of looking close to uglier or bulging (obese) teeth. The shaving off (0.8 mm) of tooth enamel is almost a necessary component to achieve perfect esthetics. The strength of the porcelain material will more or less compensate for the lost enamel. The sensitivity can be expected for 2-4 days or little more. Meds provided or prescribed by dentist will help ease the pain.
Reply:Dentalcare32 is 100% correct. If you do not get down to a fresh surface, the bond will not reeally bond and you will have your veneers popping of. It only has to be a fresh surface, which is similar to sanding through the varnish on a table before you apply new varnish. He won't grind off all of your enamel.
Reply:Why do you need veneers at all? If it is because you teeth are dark take off the "plastic" filling material and whiten them

Porcelain Veneers???

i dunno if i spelled that right, but i want them SO bad. My two front have have a little space in between, its not that bad but i HATE it! I should have got braces when i was little but i was too scared. Anyway i tryed to get invisiline but the dentist said it wouldnt work. So i was just wondering how much they are, and if they hurt and all that stuff. thanks!!

Porcelain Veneers???
In my office we charge $950.00 a veneer. Contrary to what that other answerer said, it is not just movie stars who get them. We had a middle age woman come in a couple of months ago, who got all 6 front teeth done. Veneers are not done on molars, at least not by any dentist I have worked for. The process usually takes about 3 weeks, but since they are very visible, sometimes there are multiple tryin appointments trying to get the shape and shade just right. The teeth can be sensitive because the enamel on the facial side is removed, but once the veneer is in place that should go away.

They are not that bad. Feel free to contact me if you want anymore information.
Reply:Veneers freak me out because they actually shave down the tooth to put them on.

Really hun, don't hate your gap. I actually wish I HAD one, I'm not even kidding. I love those kinds of things, they make people who they are. Live with your gap and don't get your teeth grinded.
Reply:They are VERY EXPENSIVE. Usually only Hollywood stars have them done to have perfect white teeth. I've heard it costs between 1 to 2 thousand per tooth. That is at least 32 thousand dollars for a mouthfull. And that is saying a mouthfull ! Good Luck ! :)

Porcelain veneers?

i would like any advice really both the top row and bottem row of my teeth are crooked and slightly discoulered due to smoking this really knock's my self confidence and i actully mumble when i talk to try to hide my teeth was thinking veeners might be the best option but was wondering are they payment plans where you can pay certain amounts a month rather than outright payments?and also how do i spot the good dentists from the bad i live in newcatle upon tyne england so if anybody outthere can recommend a good dentist in this area i would be gratefull

Porcelain veneers?
As you know or going to know the porcelain veneers are very expensive, alternatively you may look other EU countries relatively dental costs are lover than England. For example in some countries a porcelain crown costs 250 Euro plus taxes etc.
Reply:I have a few of them. I had gaps in my teeth when my teeth shifted a few years after my braces came off.

It'll depend on whether your dentist takes payments or not so good to ask first. Another option is braces. Because with regular veneers, they do shave down your teeth a little to fit them in. I had 2 done this way and I was sad to see my healthy teeth shaved down. There's also Lumineers. I have 2 in the front. There's no drills and no shaving of the tooth. It's placed on top. But more expensive. But with braces, you can get them all straighten and it's still your real teeth. My Ortho set me up on a payment plan. But best to ask your dentist about all the options.

There's strips to help whiten the stains. I'm a former smoker and coffee drinker and it works every time. I've been using it for almost 4 years. The Crest Renewal and Classic line works really well for me. Good luck!

Porcelain veneers?

how long do veneers last for?

Porcelain veneers?
until they fall out
Reply:Hi I had mine for about 18 years. stayed the same colour too. But now they are probably much better than when I had them. There brilliant really. But do remember as I found out. They do have to file your original teeth down. So like I did you'll probably end up with Caps. And in the front they aren't so good.
Reply:Done properly using high grade cement and taken good care of, porcelain veneers easily last 20+ years.
Reply:I'm afraid depsite what you hear the jury is still out in dental circles as to how long they last. A reasonable average life expectancy would be 10 years.

If somebody has good teeth i.e. no fillings, but they are not too attractive i recommend braces ('invisible ones') and tooth whitening. The results will last you a lifetime...... as long as you look after your teeth, but isn't that true for everyone?!?
Reply:I don't actually know but now i am worried because i am only 16 and have to get them its going to cost be £600 per tooth as well. gutted. :(

Porcelain veneers!?

Does anyone have them, and if so how do you like them? I tried Zoom technology to whiten my teeth. My teeth look great indoors, but are yellow and grey outdoors. I can tell from pictures that are taken.

My teeth are straight, and I already have big teeth. Do porcelain veneers make your teeth look bigger? Do they still appear yellow or grey in the outdoors? How long do they last? And how much do they cost? How long does it take to do the procedure? How much do they cost?

Porcelain veneers!?
First let me start here. not everyone is a candidate for Veneers. since you have tried bleaching and you feel like it didn't work out for your, the next step would be Veneers. Porcelain Veneers generally run about 1000-1300 (+ or -) a piece. Most often the front six teeth (canine to canine) are prepped. but sometimes the premolars behind the canines are prepped. This means you would be changing 6-8 teeth. the appt for this varies. some dentists are faster than others. faster does not usually mean better. research your options. don't just go to whoever is closest to your house. you want someone who does quality work and stands behind it. this is a true investment of time and money. get the best. this is your smile we are talking about.

Veneers usually aren't covered under insurance. the only time it would be covered is if you fractured a single tooth.

Generally Veneers give a much more ideal smile, shape and color. if the dr is good the will do a "try in' before they actually cement the veneers onto your teeth. this will let you see if your are happy w/ the shape (which actually is important) and color. womens teeth tend to be more curved at the corners and mens teeth are much more robust/square.

the procedure could last anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on who preforms it. you will wear temporary veneers for a few weeks. expect some cold sensitivity and having to be watch how you bite into things. you should aks about wearing a nightguard after the veneers are seated permanently. this will help protect your investment.

Research it. ask around your area. and even make some appts just for consultations and dentist could give you a better idea on how much/length of appt.

Good Luck!

Porcelain veneers?

So I was wondering first of all how much porcelain veneers cost approximately? and if they involve a lot pain or if its manageble...I have decent teeth their not bad but I want a really nice smile, just like everyone else. Is this what the "movie stars" do to get such great smiles? or is it a different precedure?

Porcelain veneers?
I have had porcelain veneers on 13 upper teeth and I am very happy with the results. I had discolored teeth with spaces between and was afraid to smile. Now everyone tells me my smile is beautiful. Yes that is what all movie stars get and the cost to me was One thousand dollars per tooth! And yes, it is expensive, but to me, I can smile with confidence and that is what matters.

But I suggest if you have ok teeth, stick with it as long as you can. Once you get anything 'fake' done, there is no going back! Plus, today it will be teeth, tomorrow your tummy tuck or lip enhancements. You need to know when to stop!

Porcelain Veneers?

Have you ever gotten porcelain veneers or lumineers?? I am interested in getting one of them for a few stained teeth. I'm curious as to how you liked them, and what the process and cost was.

Porcelain Veneers?
As long as performed by a good dentist they always look great. Concerns with lumineers: they are very thin + expensive. How long will they last if they are so thin? Veneers are also great looking and expensive the only problem sometimes involved is they do not always last that long b/c they do not cover the entire back side of your tooth. Crowns involve more tooth surface. They cover the entire front and back of teeth and usually seem to last longer for your money. There are pros and cons to all three options though. Prices differ by location. Crowns and veneers can run from $600 to $2000.
Reply:The process for getting traditional veneers is horrible! ack! Your teeth are filed down and covered with porcelain. They tend to look a little fake/game show host-ish.
Reply:Two of my friends along with my mother have had veneers done. As long as they are done right and don't look comepletely fake then they are great! I think it is a very good idea and they instantly improve your look! A pretty smile is so important to every face. Good luck!
Reply:I was interented in getting veneers and my dentist told me that insurance does not pay and they cost like 600 bucks a tooth....so unless I win the lottery, my teeth will proably stay a little crooked.

Porcelain Veneers?

How long do porcelain veneers usually last before you have to have them replaced?

Porcelain Veneers?
Usually 10 years. Please do your homework before committing to the expense. Veneers are usually seated by shaving a portion of your tooth off and applying the veneer somewhat like a facing. If you are young, you will most likely have to repaet this process every 10 years until you choose to stop and the structural integrity of your tooth may be compromised. Just something for you to think about. Please read up on it.

Porcelain veneers ........?

has anyone had porcelain veneers? how long where you advised that they last ? have they broken, discoloured or cracked ?did it transform your smile? i am about to pay 2500 for this treatment and wanted a few opinions from real people and not statistics on paper .........thank you in advance for answers.

Porcelain veneers ........?
veneers are great for many cosmetic concerns, however your concerns are valid

front teeth thinner at the bottom strong as anyone can make them trauma and biting force can damage them over time

a good porcelain will not discolor or stain

I've seen them last undamaged longer than crowns, fillings and real teeth.

1200. is the normal cost for each from a experienced dentist who uses a high quality veneer from a reputable lab

be weary of low cost veneers, practices not

giving you a five year replacement, someone who does not offer to become your regular provider maintaining your health as well as their work

you get what you pay for

ask for pictures of actual work, ask to see anyone in the office with their work, do they have anyone who will comment on their experience with the dentist, good dentistry is happy healthy smiles a cosmetic dentist should have patients who have smiles and teeth they are willing to show off and be admired.

your smile is one of the the things that creates your attitude and confidence

when you have a great smile the world will smile with you
Reply:i have not personally but know people who have. in fact i was eating dinner out with my brother in law when one of his fell off mid meal! we thought it was funny, but he did not. if the quality of wrok is good, you shouldn't have any problems. my mother has had them for at least 20 yrs without problems

Porcelain veneers?

Im 18-years-old, and i have 2 slightly crooked teeth on top (on either side of my front ones) %26amp; i was told id need braces for 2 years. Im graduating high school next month, and really dont want braces. Ive done research and come upon porcelain veneers. This seems like it might not be such a bad idea for me, i would have straight teeth w/o braces. Would this be a good or not so good choice to make?

Porcelain veneers?
I'm 16 and currently having one of my teeth corrected using veneers, and my dentist has told me that if i had just one done, it would natural and i would still have my natural line of teeth. You are having just two so they will not look fake. The dentist matches your tooth colour identically and they look great!
Reply:This is my personal opinion. Wearing braces is not that big of a deal nowadays. The only problem that "I" have with veneers is they look too perfect, almost to the point were you can tell you have fake teeth. If your teeth aren't that jacked up and you only need to wear braces for two years I would say go for the braces. Also look at the cost difference. I hope this helps.
Reply:Straighten your teeth using the Invisalign method. Look for a dentist in your area that does it.

Porcelain Veneers?

Hello everyone. I had a question regarding porcelain veneers. I was thinking about getting them but had a question. I heard that the veneers last about 15-20, then you have to replace them. Well, do the veneers just start chipping away? Do they start to fall off? I don't get it. Is it something that happens underneath the veneers that others can't see? I would hate to get them if after 10 years, it visibly starts chipping or something. I would appreciate info from anyone that knows. Thank you

Porcelain Veneers?
There's a variety of reason why veeners fail after 15-20 years as you said. It all depends on a few things:

1) how much tooth it's replacing

small veneers that are purely on the front part should last near forever. they aren't in contact with anything, they don't extend to the back of the teeth or rub on anything except lips, tongue, and air. Large veneers are asked to do little more and aren't as strong

2) cement

today's cements are heck of alot better than cements from 30, 20, and, even 10 years ago. Back in the 80's the cements used were good only for small veneers and attached only to the enamel part of our teeth. So if these leaked all the time, discoloring the edges of the veener. Today's cement bond to everything: enamal and dentin.

So how they fail?

1) the most common is leakage. despite the cements of today, most are very technique sensitive and alittle mistake can go a long way.

2) design: veeners are super easy to do , however, if you design them so that they do contact with opposing teeth or your prone to eating rocks daily, you can get some chipping.

Most cost about $1500-2000 each and personal well worth it. Ask your dentist more questions and do some additional reseach cause it can be alot of money!

Take care
